Emily Pelstring (Kingston)

Emily Pelstring is a Canadian artist and professor in the Department of Film and Media at Queen’s University.

Working across animation and media installation, she explores the material histories of moving-image technologies, particularly the role of glass and proto-cinematic apparatuses. Her films have screened internationally at festivals such as Ann Arbor, Transmediale, Images, and Oberhausen, with retrospectives at the Ottawa International Animation Festival (2020) and GIRAF (2023).

Her work has been featured by Animation World Network, Cartoon Brew, ASIFA, and CBC Gem. Pelstring’s recent animations, Hedge Rider (2022) and A Flame the Colour of Air (2025), were supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the National Film Board of Canada, and multiple artist residencies.

She also creates immersive installations and collaborates on performance, music, and video projects with The Powers and the Technomystic Ecology Lab.
